Why This Blog Exists

The main reason I began blogging in April 2011 was to help me document everything that happened in my breaking away from my malignant family of origin. I wanted a place to store all the information I was learning, the memories that kept bubbling over, the entire story so I would never forget, so I’d never go back.

Being the adult child of a malignant narcissist is surreal. No one believes you when you share your stories. People do not understand how soul-crushing emotional abuse can be … unless they themselves have experienced it.

So, I wrote everything down to keep myself sane, to keep myself awake.

Somewhere along the way, I met some fantastic online friends who have helped in the journey … and then to surprise, I found myself receiving emails and comments from people who read my blog and realized, “Hey, I’m not alone.”

So, this blog exists because many of us, adult children of narcissists, exist. We’re not alone. We have stories to share … and an awareness to bring regarding emotional child abuse and its long-term effects.

This blog exists to let others know that, despite deeply emotional abusive childhoods, ACoNs can somehow, through prayer, support, and therapy, cobble together happy new lives with families of their own choosing …

We’re broken, but not destroyed. We have great pain within us, but also a great capacity to love.
